Foresters Drop Opener at JustAgame Classic

Junior forward Hannah O'Day and freshman guard Kelsey Burton combined to shoot 12-for-12 from the free throw line and score 24 points but the Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 71-53 by Luther College on Friday during the JustAgame Classic in Wisconsin Dells.

O'Day came off the bench to lead the Foresters with 13 points. She made all seven of her attempts from the foul line and added a season-high-tying seven rebounds. Burton was 5-for-5 from the line and finished with 11 points, six boards, and four of the team's season-high 16 steals.

Sophomore forward Molly Schoenlein led Lake Forest and tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds. Luther finished the contest with a 47-41 edge on the boards.

Lake Forest struggled from the field, shooting just 25.7 percent, while the Norse connected on 41.1 percent of their field goal attempts. The Foresters missed all 10 of their shots from beyond the arc but were 15-for-17 on free throws. They are now shooting 85.4 percent from the line in games played away from home this season.

Luther pulled out to a double-digit advantage in the opening quarter and led 23-12 after 10 minutes of play. The margin was 15 (37-22) at halftime and grew to 26 by the end of the third. The Foresters outscored the Norse 19-11 in the final period.

Lake Forest is now 4-5 on the season while Luther improved to 8-5.

The Foresters will continue play at the JustAgame Classic when they take on the University of St. Thomas Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
