Lake Forest Drops Opener to #22 Chicago

Junior forward Hannah Hiland led Lake Forest with nine points as the Forester women's basketball team began the 2017-18 season with a 76-32 loss to visiting University of Chicago, the 22nd-ranked team in the nation, Wednesday night.

Hiland was 3-for-5 from the field but the Foresters shot just 20.8 percent in the contest. The home team also came up empty on all six of its attempts from three-point range and on 12 of 22 free throws. Chicago was 39.4 percent from the floor, 6-for-21 from beyond the arc, and 14-for-22 from the foul line. The Maroons also had a 59-33 edge in rebounds.

Sophomore forward Molly Schoenlein led Lake Forest with six rebounds and was one of three players on the team with two steals.

The visitors scored the game's first 21 points and led 23-2 after the first period. The score was 44-10 at the half before a more competitive third quarter during which the Foresters were outscore by just three at 19-16. The teams combined for just 19 points in the final 10 minutes.

Lake Forest will play a pair of games at Wheaton College's Beth Baker Classic this weekend. After taking on the hosts Friday afternoon at 3:00, the Foresters will face North Central College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
