Foresters Rout Lawrence in Season Finale

Senior forward Brittany Avonts scored a career-high 18 points as the Lake Forest College women's basketball team closed out the season with a 90-32 victory over Lawrence University at home on Saturday.

Avonts also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for her third career double-double. She added a pair of blocked shots and finished her career ranked fourth in program history with 68 blocks over the last four seasons.

Sophomore guard Bridget Bilek led all players in the game and also established a new career-high with 22 points. She shot 9-for-13 from the field and made all four of her attempts from three-point range. Bilek also added four assists and a pair of steals in the contest.

Freshman forward Molly Schoenlein was the only other player in double figures with 10 points. She shot 4-for-5 from the floor and added eight rebounds.

Lake Forest recorded assists on 27 of 35 made field goals with junior guard Kelsey Schmitt leading the was with a career-high seven. The Foresters' connected on 51.5 percent of field goal attempts, their highest shooting accuracy in more than two seasons, and made eight of 12 attempts from beyond the arc. The home team also limited the Vikings to 22 percent shooting from the field, out-rebounded the visitors 58-31, and forced 14 turnovers while committing a season-low 10.

The Foresters made their first eight field goal attempts of the game, including three from three-point range, and jumped out to a 16-0 lead after less than four minutes of play. The score was 23-1 just three minutes later and 29-5 at the end of the first quarter.

The home team cooled off a little in the second quarter, shooting just 43.8 percent from the floor, but still outscored the Vikings 22-9 to take a 51-14 lead into the locker room at the half.

Lake Forest continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring the visitors by 10 in the third quarter and 11 in the fourth.

The victory was the 100th for Tamlyn Tills as Lake Forest's head coach. The Foresters finished the season 6-17 overall and 5-13 in Midwest Conference play. Lawrence fell to 2-21 overall and 0-18 in the league.

In addition to Avonts, fellow seniors Brie Majkowski and Tara Gloystein were honored before their final career game. The three players combined for 28 points, 22 rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks in the contest.
