Freshman guard Zaria Sydnor scored a season-high 10 points but the Lake Forest College women's basketball team dropped a 60-54 decision at Illinois College on Wednesday.
Sydnor added five rebounds and three steals in the contest.
Sophomore guard Bridget Bilek led the visitors with 17 points and junior forward Kara Norvet matched Sydnor with 10. Senior forward Brie Majkowski and freshman forward Molly Shoenlein shared team-high honors with seven rebounds apiece.
The Foresters shot just 28.4 percent from the field while the Lady Blues connected on exactly one-third of their field goal attempts. Lake Forest was outscored 18-12 from three-point range and 16-8 from the free throw line. Illinois College had a 52-43 edge in reboundsbut committed 22 of the game's 38 turnovers.
Lake Forest led by as many as six points in the first period and 17-13 after 10 minutes of play. The margin grew to as many as a dozen points in the second quarter but was back down to five at 32-27 at halftime.
After closing out the first half on an 11-4 run, Illinois College outscored the Foresters 20-6 in the third quarter. The Lady Blues' lead fluctuated between six and nine points throughout most of the final period. The visitors closed to within four on a three-pointer by sophomore forward Hannah Hiland with 1:49 to play but would get no closer.
The Foresters are now 2-5 overall and 1-3 in Midwest Conference play this season. Illinois College improved to 5-2 overall and remained perfect after four conference contests.
Lake Forest will not play again until traveling to Phoenix for the Arizona Shootout at the end of the month. The Foresters will take on Kenyon College at 12:00 p.m. (MST) on Thursday, December 29, and Williams College the following afternoon at 2:00 (MST).
