Foresters Prevail at Illinois Tech, Even Record at 2-2

Freshman forward Molly Schoenlein led the visitors with a dozen points and eight rebounds as the Lake Forest College women's basketball team won 53-43 at Illinois Institute of Technology Monday night.

Schoenlein, who did not start for the Foresters, posted those numbers despite playing just 21 minutes. She scored half of her points in the second quarter and grabbed all but one of her rebounds in the fourth.

Sophomore forward Paige Bobos shot 4-for-5 from the field and was next on the team with nine points. Sophomore guard Bridget Bilek led Lake Forest with four assists and senior forward Brie Majkowski with three blocked shots.

The Foresters closed out the first quarter on an 8-2 run and led 11-5 after 10 minutes of play. Back-to-back baskets by Lake Forest to open the second quarter made it a 10-point game but the lead was between five and nine points for most of the period. It then reached 11 points at 29-18 on a field goal by senior guard Tara Gloystein at the buzzer.

Illinois Tech closed to within nine points four times in the second half, twice in the third quarter and two more times early in the fourth, but the Scarlet Hawks would get no closer. The Forester lead grew to as many as 15 points in the final period.

Lake Forest is now 2-2 on the season while the Scarlet Hawks fell to 0-3.

The Foresters will resume Midwest Conference play with a pair of games in Iowa this weekend. The team will play at Cornell College Friday eveing at 5:30 and at Grinnell College the following afternoon at 1:00.
