Junior guard Kelsey Schmitt led the visitors with 14 points but the Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 63-53 at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday.

Schmitt scored half of the Foresters' 12 points in the final quarter. The game was tied at 41 with 10 minutes to play and a pair of free throws by Schmitt early in the period gave Lake Forest a brief lead. The Raiders responded with a basket to tie the score and a three-pointer to take the lead for good. The visitors pulled to within two points on four different occasions, the last on a free throw by Schmitt with 2:08 left, but got no closer. MSOE scored the next five points to pull away and the Foresters managed just one more basket the rest of the way.

Sophomore forward Hannah Hiland also reached double figures for the Foresters with a dozen points off the bench. She shot 5-for-210 from the field and connected on her only three-point field goal attempt of the game. Senoir guard Tara Gloystein led the team with five rebounds.

The Foresters made exactly one-third of their field goal attempts and 18 of 24 free throws. They also committed just 15 turnovers while forcing 21. MSOE shot 43 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Lake Forest 43-26.

It was the season opener for MSOE and the second loss in as many games for the Foresters, who will begin Midwest Conference play against visiting Beloit College Tuesday evening at 5:30.
