Sophomore forward Hannah Hiland led the Foresters with a career-high 11 points, eight rebounds, and three blocked shots but the Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 59-51 in overtime by visiting Benedictine University on Tuesday.

Highland scored half of the Foresters' points and blocked a pair of shots in the first quarter as the home team jumped out to a 16-12 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Sophomore guard Bridget Bilek and junior guard/forward Kara Norvet combined for nine points in the second quarter. The Eagles tied the score at 16 early in the period but the Foresters regained the lead and were ahead 25-23 at halftime. Bilek finished the contest with 10 points and Norvet was third on the team with eight.

Benedictine tied the game at 29 early in the third quarter but Lake Forest outscored the visitors 12-0 during a three-minute span and had 41-31 lead at the end of the period.

The margin was back up to a dozen points at 45-33 early in the fourth quarter. The Eagles, however, scored the game's next 15 points and the Foresters needed a pair of free throws by Norvet and one by Hiland in the final minute to force overtime.

A basket by senior forward Brie Majkowski midway through the extra period was the home team's first field goal in more than 10 minutes but the Foresters' three points in overtime were not nearly enough and Benedictine pulled away for the victory.

Norvet led Lake Forest with three assists and junior guard Kelsey Schmitt finished with a team-high four steals.

The Foresters shot 30 percent from the field but held the Eagles to just 29 percent. Benedictine, however, had a 61-43 advantage in rebounds and committed two fewer turnovers that Lake Forest (20-22).

Lake Forest will play its first road game of the year Saturday at Milwaukee School of Engineering. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
