Lake Forest Drops Season Finale at Monmouth College

The Forester women's basketball team was defeated 97-62 at Monmouth College in Lake Forest's season finale on Saturday. Senior guard Alex Messacar scored a team-high 12 points and added three steals in her final collegiate game.

Four of Lake Forest's top four scorers on Saturday were seniors. Forward Liz Radtke was second on the team with 11 points, fellow forward Courtney Faulstick had nine, and guard Lindsay Wallaert finished with eight points while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman forward K.C. Stralka chipped in with nine points.

The Foresters shot a season-low 28.1 percent from the field and made just three of 26 three-pointers. Lake Forest made 23 of 32 (71.9 %) free throws and finished the season with 356 made free throws, matching the ninth-highest total in program history. Radtke's 105 made foul shots rank her fifth in school history. Although the visitors went without a blocked shot on Saturday, the Foresters's 62 blocks on the season rank seventh in team annals and Stralka's 21 rank 10th on the individual single-season list.

Monmouth shot 65.5 percent from the floor and made 10 of 18 attempts from three-point range and 15 of 21 foul shots. The Fighting Scots also had a 39-36 edge in rebounds.

An 18-point run by Monmouth in the first half extended its lead to 25 points and the score was 44-28 in favor of the Scots at halftime. The margin continued to grow gradually throughout the second half.

Lake Forest finished the season with an overall record of 12-11 and a Midwest Conference mark of 10-8. Monmouth is now 19-4 overall and earned the #2 seed in next weekend's MWC Tournament with a league mark of 14-4.

Radtke led the 2012-13 Foresters with 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Freshman guard Michelle Ricolcol was second on the squad with 8.3 points per contest and Messacar, who knocked down a team-high 20 three-pointers on the year, was third at 7.3.
