Foresters Prevail 60-46 at Lawrence

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team defeated host Lawrence University 60-46 Wednesday evening, led by senior forward Liz Radtke's game-high 14 points, eight rebounds, and five steals.

Radtke shot 5-for-8 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free throw line. Her rebound total was actually tied with a pair of Vikings for game-high honors and her steal total matched her career-high.

Forester freshman guard Michelle Ricolcol and junior guard/forward Gina Ambrose also reached double figures with 11 points apiece. Ricolcol also dished out a game-high four assists and Ambrose was 6-for-8 from the foul line, where Lake Forest connected 19 times in 25 attempts and Lawrence shot just 2-for-2.

The visitors also had an edge in field goal percentage, making 39.6 percent of their shots while the Vikings were successful exactly one-third of the time. Lawrence had a 37-33 edge in rebounds but committed 26 turnovers to the Foresters' 18.

Lake Forest, which never trailed in the game, took the lead for good on a Radtke layup two-and-a-half minutes into the contest. The lead grew to as many as eight points but was back down to three (29-26) at halftime.

The Foresters started the second half with an 8-2 run but the Vikings came back again and pulled to within a single point (43-42) on a three-pointer with 9:23 remaining. Lake Forest turned the ball over 21 seconds later, prompting a timeout by head coach Tamlyn Tills. Her squad responded by scoring the game's next 12 points and holding Lawrence to just four points the rest of the way.

The victory evens the Foresters' Midwest Conference record at 4-4 and leaves them at 6-7 overall this season. Lawrence fell to 1-11 overall and 0-7 in the league.

Lake Forest will be back at home on Saturday against Monmouth College. The game will begin at 3:00 p.m.
