Lake Forest Unable to Keep Up with Denison at D3hoops.com Classic

The Forester women's basketball team was defeated 69-55 by Denison University on Sunday at the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada. Freshman guard Michelle Ricolcol led Lake Forest with 13 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Ricolcol was 5-for-8 from the field and added five rebounds, two assists, and a blocked shot. Freshman forward Sam Cady was next on the team with nine points and sophomore guard Jenna Rice finished with eight. Senior forward Courtney Faulstick led the squad with six rebounds.

Lake Forest shot 44.4 percent from the floor while Denison made just 34.8 percent of their field goal attempts. The Foresters also had a 39-35 advantage in rebounds but committed 27 turnovers while forcing just six.

The Foresters led 24-13 after a three-pointer by sophomore guard Kelly Mahalek with less than eight minutes to play in the opening period. The Big Red, however, closed out the half on a 24-0 run to take a 37-24 lead into the locker room at intermission.

Six straight points by Ricolcol and a three-pointer by Rice trimmed the deficit to just five points (40-35) with 16:21 to play and a layup by Faulstick made it a four-point game midway through the second half. Denison made the game's next three baskets, however, and led by at least eight points the rest of the way.

Lake Forest is now 4-6 on the season while Denison raised its record to 6-5.

The Foresters will resume Midwest Conference play against Ripon College Wednesday afternoon at 3:00.
