Foresters Drop Free Throw-Filled Contest at Illinois College

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 65-54 at Illinois College on Saturday in a game that included 60 free throws by the two teams combined. The Foresters are now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Midwest Conference play.

Lake Forest was led by freshmen Lexi Leneau and Sam Cady with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Cady also pulled down six rebounds and recorded seven steals.

The Foresters shot just 32 percent from the floor while Illinois College connected on 47.5 percent of field goal attempts. The teams combined to make just three shots from three-point range but knocked down 46 of 60 free throws. The Lady Blues out-rebounded the visitors 40-23 but committed 28 of the game's 50 turnovers.

Lake Forest led 16-15 before a 10-0 Illinois College run gave the home team the lead for good. The Lady Blues increased their lead to as many as 12 points in the first half and were ahead by that amount again (36-24) at halftime.

The home team increased its lead to 14 early in the second half but the Foresters trimmed it to six several times but got no closer. The Blues made five of six free throws in the final 72 seconds to secure the victory.

The Foresters will continue Midwest Conference play Tuesday evening at St. Norbert College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
