Foresters Begin MWC Play with Victory at Knox

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team pulled away late and won 79-55 at Knox College on Sunday in the first Midwest Conference game of the season for both teams. Forester senior Liz Radtke shot 7-for-9 from the field and finished with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Radtke was second on the team in scoring behind senior guard Alex Messacar, who finished with 16 points and added seven rebounds and four assists. Freshman guard Michelle Ricolcol and forward/guard Sam Cady chipped in with 11 points apiece and sophomore guard Jenna Rice led the visitors with six assists.

Lake Forest shot 53.7 percent from the field but just 7-for-13 from the foul line. The home team made just 30.2 percent of its field goal attempts, six of 35 three-pointers, and 11 of 24 free throws. The Foresters also out-rebounded the Prairie Fire 41-38 and committed 28 of the game's 58 turnovers.

The visitors trailed by one in the first half before going on a 16-3 run. The lead shrunk to seven at one points and was nine (41-32) at halftime.

The Foresters led by just five with nine minutes to play but outscored the home team 22-3 the rest of the way. Radtke scored eight points during the run.

Lake Forest raised its overall record on the season to 2-1 while Knox fell to 0-3.

The Foresters will play their first home game of the season against Carroll University Wednesday evening at 5:30.
