Foresters Defeat Buena Vista at McWilliams Classic

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team defeated Buena Vista University 78-63 in the consolation game of the McWilliams Classic at Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday. Forester senior guard Alex Messacar scored 13 points and pulled down a dozen rebounds for her third career double-double.

Messacar was one of four Foresters to reach double figures in points. Senior forward Liz Radtke led the team with 15 and added nine rebounds. Junior guard/forward Gina Ambrose and freshman forward K.C. Stralka scored 12 points and Stralka added eight boards and three blocked shots.

Lake Forest shot 43 percent from the field while holding Buena Vista to just 32 percent. The Foresters also had a 50-43 edge in rebounds.

The Beavers led by as many as eight points in the first half but were held scoreless the final 7:13 of the period while the Foresters scored 15 points to pull ahead 41-31.

Lake Forest's lead shrunk to four points early in the second half but reached double figures for good on a Radtke free throw with 9:47 to play. A basket by Forester freshman forward/guard Sam Cady with 2:40 remaining extended the lead to a game-high 21 points.

Radtke was named to the McWilliams Classic All-Tournament Team after scoring 30 points and pulling down 15 rebounds on the weekend.

The Foresters' next game will be their Midwest Conference opener at Knox College next Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
