Lake Forest Falls to Ohio Northern in Season Opener

The Forester women's basketball team was defeated 67-48 by Ohio Northern University Friday evening in the semifinals of the McWilliams Classic at Washington University-St. Louis. Senior forward Liz Radtke led Lake Forest with 16 points and six rebounds.

Radtke shot 6-for-9 from the field, made her only attempt from three-point range, and knocked down three of four free throws. Sophomore forward Rose Coll was next on the team with seven points, freshman forward/guard Sam Cady had six, and three Foresters finished with five.

Lake Forest shot 38 percent from the field and made just four of 16 three-pointers and six of 10 foul shots. Ohio Northern shot 42 percent from the floor, 6-for-20 from beyond the arc, and 3-for-4 from the line. The Polar Bears out-rebounded the Foresters 45-30 and Lake Forest committed 24 of the game's 43 turnovers.

Ohio Northern jumped out to an 11-2 lead and extended the margin to 20 (37-17) by halftime.

The margin grew to as many as 28 points early in the second half but a 9-2 Forester run trimmed it back to 18 with 8:26 remaining. The difference hovered around 20 points the rest of the way.

Washington University-St. Louis defeated Buena Vista University 95-73 in the other semifinal.

The Foresters will face Buena Vista in tomorrow's 5:00 consolation game.
