Foresters Start February with Convincing Win at Lawrence

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team routed host Lawrence University 79-37 Friday evening. Sophomore guard/forward Gina Ambrose pulled down a career-high 13 of the Foresters' program record-tying 63 rebounds in the contest.

Ambrose also scored eight points and dished out four assists on the night.

Freshman guard Danielle Canulli led Lake Forest in scoring for the third consecutive game. She made all seven of her free throw attempts and matched her career-high with 15 points. Junior point guard Sam Schuring was the only other player on the team in double figures. She scored 14 points and added six rebounds and three steals.

A dozen different Foresters played between nine and 22 minutes and 11 of them finished with at least two points and two rebounds. The seven players that came off the bench scored 49 of the visitors' 79 points.

Lake Forest connected on 42.3 percent of its field goal attempts, five of 17 shots from three-point range, and 14 of 17 free throws. Lawrence was limited to just 21.7 percent shooting from the field, including a 4-for-26 performance from beyond the arc, and the home team made just seven of 18 foul shots. The Foresters had a commanding 63-30 edge in rebounds but committed 26 of the game's 49 turnovers.

The Foresters outscored the Vikings 15-0 during the first eight minutes of the game and led 48-17 at halftime.

The home team was held without a point for the first six minutes of the second half while Lake Forest scored 12 to extend its lead to 60-17.

The Foresters, who have alternated wins and losses for their last 10 games, evened their overall record on the season at 9-9 and raised their Midwest Conferenec mark to 8-6. Lawrence fell to 1-18 overall and 1-13 in the league.

Lake Forest will travel to Carroll University tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
