Lake Forest is 3-0 in MWC after Rout of Lawrence

The Forester women's basketball team posted a convincing 73-48 victory over visiting Lawrence University on Saturday and is now 3-0 in Midwest Conference play. Lake Forest freshman guard Kelly Mehalek scored a career-high 10 points off the bench in just 11 minutes of play.

Mehalek made all five of her field goal attempts and also added four steals. Junior point guard Sam Schuring led the Foresters with 15 points and five steals. Freshman forward Rose Coll also reached double figures with 12 points.

Lake Forest out-rebounded the Vikings 44-41 and each of the 14 Foresters who played in the contest had at least one board. Junior guard Alex Messacar led the way with six.

The Foresters shot 42.9 percent from the field and limited Lawrence to just 24 percent. The teams combined to make just six of 30 three-point field goal attempts. The home team committed 21 turnovers but forced 28.

Lake Forest scored the game's first six points and led 16-5 after just five-and-a-half minutes. The margin reached as many as 16 points in the opening period but was trimmed to just eight (31-23) with 2:53 on the clock. Three baskets by Coll in the final 80 seconds of the half gave the Foresters a 39-26 advantage at halftime. Coll and Schuring each had 10 points in the game's first 20 minutes.

The Foresters outscored the visitors 20-8 in the first 13 minutes of the second half and cruised to the victory.

Thirteen players scored for Lake Forest in the game.

The Foresters raised their overall record to 4-2 while Lawrence fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Lake Forest will play a non-conference game at North Central College Tuesday evening at 7:00.
