Lake Forest Wins by 11 at Grinnell

The Forester women's basketball team prevailed 70-59 at Grinnell College on Saturday. Lake Forest sophomore guard Sam Schuring and senior forward Tabytha Harvey combined for 40 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists in the contest.

Schuring led all players in the game with a career-high 22 points and five assists. Harvey shot 9-for-13 from the field in an 18-point performance, pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, and added a pair of blocked shots.

Lake Forest senior guard Emily Weber also reached double figures with 11 points and sophomore forward Liz Radtke recorded a game-high five steals.

The Foresters shot 46.2 percent from the field while limiting the Pioneers to 40.8. Lake Forest made five three-pointers in 14 attempts and five free throws in nine chances while the home team knocked down seven of 15 shot from beyond the arc and 12 of 15 from the foul line. The visitors out-rebounded Grinnell 35-31 and forced 21 turnovers while committing just 14.

Lake Forest took the lead for good on a jumper by Schuring with less than 14 minutes to play in the first half. A 12-0 Forester run later in the period extended the lead to 15 points (34-19) and the visitors were ahead by that same amount (41-26) at halftime.

The margin reached 18 points midway through the second half before the Pioneers outscored the Foresters 19-8 over an eight-minute span, cutting the visitors' lead to seven points with 1:21 to play. Schuring then made a pair of free throws with 1:06 left and added a basket in the closing seconds to account for the final score.

The victory evened Lake Forest's overall record on the year at 8-8 and raised their Midwest Conference mark to 6-5. Grinnell fell to 6-10 overall and 5-7 in the league.
