The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 73-60 by visiting Beloit College on Saturday. Senior forward Tabytha Harvey scored 13 points and led the Foresters with eight rebounds.
Harvey shot 5-for-7 from the field and added two assists, a blocked shot, and a steal.
Sophomore guard Alex Messacar had 17 points to lead Lake Forest in scoring for the third consecutive contest. It was also her third straight game with five three-pointers and she added a team-high three steals.
Fellow Forester sophomore guard Sam Schuring also reached double figures with 10 points and added six rebounds, a game-high seven assists, and two steals.
Lake Forest shot 31.4 percent from the field in the game and made just six three-pointers in a school record 35 attempts. Beloit made exactly half of its field goal attempts and four of 11 three-pointers. The Buccaneers also connected on 19 of 25 free throws while the Foresters made 10 of 13 foul shots. The visitors had a 44-34 edge in rebounds but committed 21 turnovers to Lake Forest's 13.
There were eight lead changes in the first 11 minutes of the game, the last on a Beloit basket that gave the visitors the lead for good. The Foresters were held scoreless for the final 4:29 of the period and trailed 30-24 at halftime.
A pair of Harvey free throws with 13:50 to play in the game pulled the home team to within three points (40-37). Beloit, however, scored the next seven points and, after a Messacar three-pointer with 11:40 left trimmed the margin back down to five, went on a 16-5 run to put the game out of reach.
Lake Forest fell to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in Midwest Conference play. The Buccaneers raised their overall record to 4-8 and league mark to 2-5.
The Foresters will be on the road in Wisconsin next weekend, taking on St. Norbert College Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Ripon College Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Live video webcasts of both contests will be available at www.pennatlantic.com.
