Lake Forest Wins by 40 at Lawrence

The Forester women's basketball team routed host Lawrence University 76-36 on Saturday to even its Midwest Conference record on the season at 1-1. Lake Forest is 3-2 overall on the year. Sophomore guard Alex Messacar tied for team-high honors with 10 points and added five rebounds and four assists.

Senior guard Emily Weber also finished with 10 points for the visitors. Sophomore forward Courtney Faulstick and freshman forward Lauren Erickson led the Foresters with six rebounds apiece and sophomore guard Sam Schuring had a team-high five assists and three steals.

All 15 Forester played at least eight minutes and pulled down one or more rebounds in the game. Lake Forest shot 41.9 percent from the field and held the Vikings to just 20 percent. Messacar and freshman guard Sam Acosta each made a pair of the visitors' seven three-pointer (21 attempts) and Lake Forest was 7-for-15 from the free throw line. The Foresters out-rebounded the home team 54-44 and committed just 12 turnovers while recording 14 steals and forcing 25 turnovers.

Lake Forest score the game's first basket, gave up a three-pointer, and then pulled away with 20 points in a row. The Foresters led 43-10 at halftime and by as many as 45 points in the second half.

Lawrence fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The Foresters' next two games will be played in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the Hoop N Surf Classic. Lake Forest will take on McMurry University at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 19. The team will then face California Lutheran University the following night at 8:00.
