Foresters Drop Season Opener to Dominican

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 79-71 on Friday by visiting Dominican University on the first day of the Forester Tip-Off Tournament. Senior guard Sherrie Dubinski led the Foresters with career-high 15 points.

All of Dubinski's scoring came from three-pointers as she knocked down five of 10 attempts from beyond the arc. Her previous career-high for points in a game was nine.

Lake Forest sophomore forward Liz Radtke also recorded a career-high with 12 points and senior forward Tabytha Harvey added 10 in her Forester debut.

Sophomore guard Alex Messacar and freshman forward Gina Ambrose chipped in with nine points apiece and Ambrose pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Both teams opened up leads as large as five points in a first half that ended with Lake Forest ahead 37-35.

The home team scored 13 unanswered points in the first five minutes of the second half to take a 50-35 lead. After the teams traded baskets, Dominican outscored the Foresters 33-7 over the next 9-plus minutes to take a 70-59 lead. Lake Forest closed to within six points in the final minute but would get no closer.

Dominican evened its record on the season at 1-1 and will face Grinnell College tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. The Foresters will then host Rockford College at 3:00.
