Lake Forest Begins Conference Play with Victory over Nation's 20th-Ranked Team

The Forester women's basketball team began Midwest Conference play with a 68-67 victory at home over St. Norbert College Friday night (December 4). Lake Forest is now 4-2 overall on the year while the Green Knights, who entered the weekend ranked 20th in the nation by D3hoops.com, fell to 4-1.

Senior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) led all players in the game with a season-high 21 points and a dozen rebounds. It was her first double-double of the year and the fifth of her career. Senior guard Kate Grunauer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and freshman guard Sam Schuring (Elk Grove, Calif./Elk Grove) also reached double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Grunauer shot 6-for-8 from the field while Schuring led the squad with six assists.

The Foresters shot 45.6 percent from the floor in the game while holding St. Norbert to 40.4 percent. Lake Forest connected on three of 11 three-pointers and 13 of 20 free throws while the Green Knights shot 4-for-17 from beyond the arc and 17-for-24 from the foul line. The home team was out-rebounded 37-35 and committed 17 turnovers while forcing 18 St. Norbert miscues.

Lake Forest led 15-7 early in the contest before a 24-3 run by the visitors put the Knights ahead 31-18 with 4:28 to play in the opening period. The Foresters responded with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes and trailed by just four (36-32) at halftime.

The home team trimmed the deficit to a single point five times before finally tying the score at 59 on a Nassin free throw with 7:11 remaining. The score was tied at 61, 63, and 65 during the closing minutes. Nassin gave the Foresters a 66-65 lead with 25 seconds to play by making one of two foul shots but a basket by St. Norbert with just 12.9 ticks on the clock put the visitors back on top. The Foresters hustled down the court and Nassin was fouled while shooting again with 6.8 seconds remaining. She knocked down both free throws and the Knights turned the ball over with less than a second left to seal the Lake Forest victory.

The Foresters will continue Midwest Conference play tomorrow afternoon against Carroll University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00. A live video webcast, a live radio broadcast, and live stats will be available on the Lake Forest College Athletics Web.
