The Lake Forest College women's basketball team rolled to a
95-79 victory at Lawrence University Saturday afternoon (January
16). The Foresters are now 10-3 overall on the season and 6-0 in
Midwest Conference play. The Vikings fell to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in
league games.
Senior center Lisa Nassin
(Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) led the visitors with 24
points in 24 minutes of play. She shot 6-for-9 from the field and
12-for-15 from the foul line, pulled down six rebounds, and dished
out a game-high seven assists, one more than the previous
career-high she set last night at Beloit. Senior guard Kate
Grunauer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) was next on the team with 16
points and six assists. She shot 6-for-7 from the floor, including
a 4-for-5 performance from three-point range. Senior forward Claire
Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) connected on each of
her six attempts from the field and finished with 14 points. The
team's leading rebounder was senior guard Tracy Rainey
(Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) with 10.
The Foresters shot 56.9 percent from the field and made half of
their 14 attempts from beyond the arc. Lake Forest held Lawrence to
35.3 percent shooting from the floor and out-rebounded the Vikings
47-28.
Lake Forest never trailed and a Nassin jumper less than two minutes
into the contest started a 7-0 run and put the Foresters ahead for
good. The margin grew to as many as 18 points late in the opening
period and the visitors led 47-31 at halftime.
A 9-0 Forester run early in the second half extended their lead to
a game-high 23 points and the difference was at least 13 the rest
of the way. Both teams scored 48 points in the half.
The Foresters will host a pair of league games next weekend
(January 22-23). The team will take on Ripon College at 5:00 Friday
evening and Beloit College at 3:00 the following afternoon.
