The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated
78-59 at Carthage College Monday night (November 30). The Foresters
fell to 3-2 on the season while the Lady Reds raised their record
to 5-0.
Senior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) and
senior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) led Lake Forest
with 10 points apiece. Senior guard Kate Grunauer (Chicago,
Ill./Marist) and freshman forward Liz Radtke (New Berlin, Wis./New
Berlin West) added nine and eight points, respectively. Rainey also
led the team with seven rebounds and Grunauer with five
assists.
The Foresters shot 42 percent from the field, 6-for-18 from
three-point range, and 11-for-15 from the free throw line. The Lady
Reds connected on 50.8 percent of their field goal attempts,
including seven of 16 from beyond the arc, and shot 7-for-15 from
the foul line. Carthage out-rebounded the visitors 36-30 and forced
26 turnovers while committing just 19.
A 16-2 Carthage run early in the game gave the home team a 19-5
lead. The Foresters trimmed the margin to nine twice in the opening
period but still trailed 37-24 at halftime.
The difference reached as many as 27 points during the second half,
despite a trio of three-pointers by Grunauer in the period.
