Lake Forest Starts 2023 at Firebird First

The Forester track team traveled just north of the state line on Saturday to compete in the Firebird First at Carthage College.

Sophomore Matthew Lungu scored points in both of his individual events. He qualified for the finals of the 55, where his time of 6.75 seconds was good for sixth place. Lungu was also fourth in the 200 in 23.26 seconds, which was just three-tenths of a second off the winning time.

Senior Lionel Whitehead also earned points for the Foresters with his eighth-place finish in the 800, which he completed in 2:15.18.

Three Lake Forest women also posted top-eight finishes in individual events. Junior Monika Wolska finished fifth in the mile in 5:56.39 while freshmen Jacquelyn Han and AJ Jones were sixth in the 55m hurdles (10.34) and 200 (29.35), respectively. Jones now ranks second in program history in the 200.

The Foresters will return to Kenosha next Saturday for the Lake Michigan Open at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
