Guajardo Earns Forester Athlete of the Week Honors

For the second time this season, junior Yaneli Guajardo has been named the Forester Athlete of the Week. She earned the honors for her record-breaking performance this past weekend at the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Guajardo broke two of her own records during the weekend's competition. On Friday, she finished second overall in the mile, being edged out by only 0.39 seconds. Her time set the new record at 5:10.61. Her other record-breaking performance was on Saturday in the 3000, where she defended her Conference title and finished in a time of 10:32.80, 11 seconds under her previous mark.

The junior also finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:21.59 on Saturday.

The top three individuals in each event earn All-MWC honors, a feat which she has accomplished seven times in three career indoor championship meets.

Guajardo scored 23 of the team's 39 total points at the meet, helping the Forester women, who only competed in the running events of the track and field competition, place seventh overall in the team standings.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Guajardo also received the distinction on January 23, 2020.
