Guajardo and Wilson Lead Foresters on Day One of MWC Championships

Junior Yaneli Guajardo finished second in the women's mile and senior Philip Wilson was third in the men's 5000 on Friday, the first day of the 2020 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet.

Guajardo was edged out by just 0.39 seconds and repeated as the runner-up in the event, despite breaking her own program record with a time of 5:10.61. The top three individuals in each event earn All-MWC honors and she has now accomplished that a total of five times in three career indoor championship meets.

Wilson's turned in his first career all-conference performance, completing 25 laps around the Grinnell College track in 15:31.85.

Freshman Madeline Morland joined Guajardo in the mile and finished sixth in 5:25.60.

Additional points for the Forester men were secured by eighth-place finishes in the sprint medley and 4x200 relays.

While they did not score points, the Lake Forest's women's 4x200 relay team of sophomore Alexa Kotsovos and freshmen Alyssa Xanos, Alexa Kotsovos, and Paityn Tabor set a team record with their time of 1:59.34 and Kotsovos added another program best with a 8.80-second 60-meter dash.

The meet will conclude on Saturday.
