Foresters Open Season at UW-Oshkosh

Senior Emily Staufer won the women's mile on Friday as the Lake Forest College track team opened the 2019 season at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Twilight Meet.

Staufer's time of 5:35.01 was more than 15 seconds faster than the runner-up from Oshkosh.

The Forester women were also led by sophomore Yaneli Guajardo, who placed second out of 11 competitors in the 800m run in 2:23.04.

The top performance for the Lake Forest men was turned in by senior Christian Aldana, who finished second in the 3000m run in 8:48.28, just 0.6 seconds behind the winner and the program's fastest time in its second year as a varsity sport. Classmate Jorge Villanueva was fourth out of 16 runners in the same race with a time of 8:57.70.

Freshman Mathieu Norcross was fourth in the 800m run in 2:13.53 and junior Philip Wilson finished sixth in the mile in 4:43.06.

No team scores were kept at the meet, which included Lake Forest, Oshkosh, Wisconsin Lutheran College, and Lakeland University.

The Foresters will compete at Carthage College's Tadd Metzger Invitational next Friday at 3:30 p.m.
