Six Foresters Earn Academic All-District® Honors in Swimming & Diving

College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2022-23 Academic All-District® Teams for swimming and diving on Tuesday and six Foresters were listed.

To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must be the equivalent of starters or important reserves and have competed in at least half of the team's contests. They must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at their current institution and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Lake Forest's honorees were seniors Violet Anderson and Helena Blumenau; juniors Luke Bedalov, Riley Komp, and Ally McCarthy; and sophomore Caprice Kalvelage.

Anderson was named Midwest Conference Swimmer of the Year for the second time at this year's MWC Championship Meet. She is a 12-time conference champion (8 individual, 4 relay) and school record-holder in two individual events and three relays. Anderson has also been named Academic All-MWC each year the award was presented.

Bedalov finished fifth in both breaststroke events and ninth in the 200-IM at the 2023 MWC Championship Meet after placing between 10th and 15th in the same events a year earlier. He was an Academic All-Midwest Conference honoree in 2021-22.

Blumenau has captured titles in the 200-backstroke and 800-freestyle relay in both of the MWC Championship meets since she transferred to the College in 2020. She also set the program record in the 200-backstroke this season and has been part of three different school record performances on relay teams during her career. Blumenau was an Academic All-MWC honoree in 2021-22.

Kalvelage wona league title in the 800-freestyle relay in 2022 and has placed among the top six in the conference in each of her three individual events the last two years. She was an Academic All-MWC honoree last year and earned the MWC Elite 20 Award this season for possessing the highest cumulative grade point average of any women's swimmer or diver at the MWC Championships.

Komp has finished among the top 12 in the 200-freestyle at each of the last two MWC Championship Meets. He was also named Academic All-MWC a year ago.

McCarthy claimed a conference championship in the 200-freestyle in 2022, the 500- and 1650-freestyle this season, and in the 800-freestyle relay both years. She ranks among the top three swimmers in team history in the 200-, 500-, and 1650-freestyle and helped the Foresters' 800-freestyle relay set a program record this season. She was an Academic All-MWC honoree last year.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on March 15.
