Women Third, Men Fifth at Phoenix Fall Classic

The Lake Forest College women's and men's swimming and diving teams competed at the University of Chicago's Phoenix Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday. They placed third and fifth overall, respectively. 

Starting off the meet on a high-note, the women's 200-medley relay finished fifth overall. Senior Helena Blumenau led off the relay and was followed by senior Sarah Burchart, junior Violet Anderson, and senior Kerry Mullen. They finished with a time of 1:55.39. The men's relay also placed fifth. Junior Justin Fugiel was joined by freshmen Tucker Potts, Ben Jacob, and Gavin Schultz to race to a time of 1:41.66.

Among the weekend's notable individual performances was sophomore Sarah McField's 10th place finish in the 100-breaststroke with a time of 1:12.67 on Saturday.

Also finishing in the top 10 of their individual events were seniors Max Rowland and Alec Pittman. On Sunday, Rowland placed fifth in the 400-individual medley with a time of 4:08.13, and Pittman placed tenth in the same race with a final time of 4:22.03. Sophomore Ally McCarthy placed seventh in her 200-breaststroke race with a time of 2:28.86.

The last race on Saturday was the 800-freestyle relay. The women's relay—consisting of Anderson, Blumenau, freshman Lia Romanotto, and Burchart—scored in third place with a final time of 8:26.85. The men's finished fifth in the final results; Jacob, sophomore Ollie Land, and seniors Graeme Witte and Rowland combined for a time of 7:22.32.

In the final event of the weekend, the women's 400-freestyle relay place finished with fourth-place points. Burchart, Anderson, and Blumenau were joined by senior Kylie Morgan to race to a time of 3:47.25. The same men who raced the 400-freestyle relay rejoined to compete in the 400-free relay; they stopped the clocked at 3:1793 and placed fifthe overall.

The Foresters compete again at the Carthage Classic beginning on Thursday, December 2 at 6:00 p.m.
