Foresters Open Season with Meet at Carthage

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams raced against Carthage College on Saturday to open up their season. Both teams ultimately dropped their competitions to the Firebirds, but not without winning a few individual events.

The first win of the meet came from senior Alec Pittman in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:17.77; he finished just ahead of teammate and fellow senior Max Rowland, who raced to a time of 10:22.01. The two men would reverse placements in the 500 later in the meet when Rowland touched first in a time of 4:57.88 and Pittman placed second less than a second later, stopping the clock at 4:58.33.

Right after the 1000 Freestyle, freshman Benjamin Jacob's time of 1:47.42 was good enough to earn him a victory. He was able to out-touch the second-place Carthage finisher by just .25 seconds. Also earning a victory was Jacob's fellow freshman Tucker Potts, who touched the wall first in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:15.74.

On the women's side of the meet, junior Violet Anderson posted a pair of victories when she finished first in the 100 and 200 Butterfly events. She finished her races in a 1:00.28 and a 2:17.57, respectively.

Also posting a pair of victories during the meet was senior diver McKinley Scheppler. Her scores of 198.08 on the 1-meter board and 191.93 earned her the top spot in both events.

Junior Helena Blumenau placed first in her 100 Backstroke in the meet as well; she finished with a time of 1:01.08, beating out the second place finisher in over a second and a half.

The Foresters compete in their home opener against Monmouth College next Saturday at 1 p.m.
