Forester Women Prevail, Men Come up Short Against IIT

The Lake Forest women earned a win against their IIT competitors while the men put up a tough competition but ultimately fell to the Scarlet Hawks.

Freshman Violet Anderson had a two-win meet at IIT on Saturday afternoon. She was the Butterfly leg of the winning 400 Medley Relay and placed first in the 200 Butterfly. Junior Susan Guo won two out of the three events that she swam at the meet. She was also part of the winning 400 Medley Relay and won the 200 Freestyle. Senior Rachel Trevillian, another leg of the women's 400 Medley, also went on to won in the 500 Freestyle event.

Sophomore Sarah Burchart earned a victory in her 100 Freestyle with her teammate fellow sophomore Kerry Mullen touching right behind her in second. While she was the only competitor in the 200 Backstroke, freshman Jhanati Rajesh swam a great race and earned first place.  

The meet on the men's side was much closer, and there were some good wins on the Foresters' side. Sophomore Alec Pittman earned the first win of the meet for the men when he hit the wall first in the 1650; his teammate sophomore Aaron Helms was right behind him, placing second. Pittman went on to place first in the 500 Freestyle.

Freshman Marcus Carter-Buckman earned another Forester victory when he won the 100 Freestyle; it was an exciting race for Carter-Buckman, and he out-touched the second-place finisher by only .01 seconds. One event later, senior Zeb Thorsen also found himself in a tight race when he won the 200 Backstroke, beating his competitor by .4 seconds.

The Forester women won the meet 112-69; the men fell to IIT 116-88.

The team will compete at home against St. Norbert on Saturday, February 1.
