Foresters Sweep MWC Performer of the Week Honors

Lake Forest College junior swimmers Susan Guo and Marcus Carter-Buckman were named Midwest Conference Performers of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Foresters to runner-up finishes at the Carthage Classic last weekend.

Guo set a school record with a time of 57.62 seconds in the prelims of the 100-butterfly, breaking the previous mark she set at the 2018 MWC Championship Meet by .12 seconds. She was second to a teammate by just .01 seconds in the final and was third at the meet in the 200-freestyle (1:56.70), fourth in the 100-freestyle (53.44), and fifth in the 200-butterfly (2:17.95). Guo also swam on the Foresters' 200-freestyle, 200-medley, and 400-freestyle relays that each placed second. She now ranks first in the conference this season in the 100-free, 200-free, and 100-fly and Lake Forest owns the fastest times in the league in all three of the relays.

Carter-Buckman won both backstroke events over the weekend, taking the 200 on Friday in 1:58.60 and prevailing in Saturday's 100 with a time of 52.70 seconds. He was also sixth in the 200-IM in 2:01.26 after posting a time of 1:59.72 in the prelims. All three performances were league-bests this season, as was the Foresters' third place time of 1:27.11 in the 200-freestyle relay, which he led off with a 50-free split of 21.94 seconds, which ranks third in the conference. He also started both of Lake Forest's medley relays, which placed fourth at the meet, and the 400-freestyle relay that was victorious by more than two-and-a-half seconds in 3:12.61.

The Forester men and women finished second at the meet behind host Carthage College.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league office. Guo also earned the award on November 12 and once as a freshman in 2017-18.
