Heath Ogawa Earns 10th Career Forester Athlete of the Week Award

Lake Forest College diver Heath Ogawa was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after earning Diver of the Year honors at last week's NCAA Division III Championships.

Ogawa captured a national title in last Thursday's 1-meter competition, a year to the day after finishing first in the country off the 3-meter board. His score of 537.65 in the finals was nearly 22 points ahead of the runner-up and the 71.30 points he earned on his penultimate dive was the 24-man field's highest score of the day.

The men's 3-meter diving event was held on Saturday and Ogawa placed fourth with 535.75 points, less than 17 fewer than the winner. He turned in another highlight reel dive in the second round of the finals, adding 74.40 points to his total and taking a brief lead in the standings.

With 20 points from Ogawa's performance on Thursday and 15 on Saturday, Lake Forest finished 21st at the meet. He received his second straight Division III Diver of the Year from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America and the Foresters' Nathan Lightman was named Division III Diving Coach of the Year.

Ogawa finished his four seasons at the College with nine All-American (top 8) performances and three Honorable Mention All-American (9-16) finishes.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. This week's award was Ogawa's third of the season and 10th in his career.
