Heath Ogawa Wins 3M Event at NCAA Region 1 Diving Meet

Forester senior Heath Ogawa is expected to be announced as a qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships after winning the 3-meter event at Friday's Region 1 Diving Meet at Wabash College.

Ogawa's 536.60 points were 32 more than the nearest competitor. He took the lead in the third round and was ahead the rest of the way. Ogawa's highest-scoring dive of the competition came in the seventh round, when a forward, three-and-a-half somersault in the pike position netted him 62 points. He also tallied 60 points on each of his next two attempts to continue pulling away from the rest of the field.

The regional meet will continue on Saturday with the men's 1-meter event and Ogawa will be looking to sweep the competition for the second year in a row.

Ogawa, who was named NCAA Division III Diver of the Year last season after capturing a national title off the 3-meter board and finishing third in the 1-meter event, is looking to make his fourth appearance at the NCAA Championships.
