Aaron Helms Named MWC Performer of the Week

Lake Forest College swimmer Aaron Helms was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday for his performance in Saturday's Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Wheaton College.

Helms won both his individual events at the meet, beginning with the 1000-freestyle. The Foresters actually had the top three finishers in the race and all three were freshmen. Helms' time of 10:04.28 was more than six seconds ahead of the runner-up.

There was also a six-second gap between Helms and the second-place finisher in the 200-butterfly later in the contest. He completed the eight lengths of the pool in 2:00.74 to become one of just two swimmers at the meet with outright victories in two individual events.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league office. Helms is the fifth member of the Forester men's team to earn the award this season.
