Heath Ogawa Named Forester Athlete of the Week

Lake Forest College diver Heath Ogawa was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after winning both events at the NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Championships at the University of Chicago last weekend.

Ogawa, a junior, finished first in Friday's 1-meter event with 523.90 points, the second-highest total at any of the four regional competitions around the country. He then tallied 512.50 points off the 3-meter board on Saturday, a score which ranked sixth among divers at all the regional meets. He earned at least 50 points on six of 11 dives in both events and his combined margin of victory was nearly 120 points.

Eight divers from the Region 1 Championships advance to the NCAA Division III Championships in Indianapolis, where they will compete in 1-meter diving on Thursday, March 20 and in the 3-meter event two days later. Ogawa will be making his third appearance at the national championships, where he currently has a career-best finish of eighth off the 1-meter board in 2016.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Ogawa also earned the honor twice last year and three times as a freshman.
