Lake Forest College swimmer Lily McCarthy was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after winning a pair of events in a double-dual meet at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday.
McCarthy, a senior, finished first in both distance events for the second straight week. Her 11:06.42 in the 1000-freestyle was more than 25 seconds faster than the runner-up and she won by more than five seconds in the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:23.59. The Forester women posted victories in five of 11 individual events at the meet and split with their opponents, defeated Lawrence University but falling to the hosts.
McCarthy owns the fastest times in the Midwest Conference this season in both events. She is the two-time defending conference champion in the 1650-freestyle.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. McCarthy was also named MWC Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com on Tuesday.
