Foresters Split Double Dual at Whitewater

Junior Frederick Weichmann finished off a Forester sweep of the 100-backstroke as the Lake Forest College swimming and diving teams defeated Lawrence University while falling to host University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday.

Weichmann won the men's race with a time of 55.08 seconds to finish nearly a half-second sooner than the runner-up from Whitewater. Senior Brigit Dunne had already taken the women's race by more than a second-and-a-half in 1:03.51.

Lake Forest also swept the diving events with sophomore Lizzie Johns taking the women's 1-meter competition with 229.87 points and the 3-meter event with a score of 184.57. Junior Heath Ogawa remained unbeaten on the year and finished with 332.96 points off the 3-meter board and a program record 330.37 in the 1-meter competition.

Senior Lily McCarthy, who CollegeSwimming.com named MWC Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday for winning both distance races last Saturday, accomplished the feat again against Whitewater and Lawrence. She completed the 1000-freestyle with a time of 11:06.42 and the 500-freestyle in 5:23.59. Her margin of victory in the two events combined was more than 30 seconds.

Freshman Max Rowland was also victorious in the 500-freestyle, taking the men's race by a second-and-a-half with a time of 5:01.57.

Senior David Bunting also turned in a victory on Saturday, edging out the runner-up from Whitewater by just .12 seconds in the 200-freestyle, which he finished in 1:49.15.

Whitewater swept its guests, defeated the Lawrence women 157-64 and the Viking men 164-41. The Forester women were outscored 137-93 and the men 135-95 by the hosts. Lake Forest came away with a 159-60 victory over the Lawrence men and a 116-102 triumph on the women's side.

The Foresters will be in action again in a week when they host the University of Chicago for Senior Day at 1:00 next Saturday afternoon.
