Heath Ogawa and Emily Bowens Sweep MWC Weekly Awards

Lake Forest College's Heath Ogawa and Emily Bowens were named Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week on Tuesday for their performances in a season-opening dual meet at Carthage College on Saturday.

Ogawa, a sophomore diver, set a conference record with an 11-dive score of 521.30 points off the 1-meter board. He finished with nearly 100 more points than Carthage's top diver on the day. The previous league record was 519.85 and Ogawa improved the program record he already held by 33.15 points. It was his third career MWC Performer of the Week award.

Bowens, a senior, touched the wall first in both backstroke events, finishing the 100 in 1:03.01 and the 200 in 2:15.33. Her margin of victory was just .45 seconds in the 100 and nearly six seconds in the 200. Bowens also had the Foresters in first place after the backstroke portion of the 400 medley relay and swam the fastest second leg in the field for the runner-up 400 freestyle relay.

MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's director of media and information.
