Foresters Prevail in Dual Meet with Augustana

The Lake Forest College women's swimming & diving team defeated visiting Augustana College 150-81 and the Forester men won 125-99 against the Vikings on Sunday. Sophomores Emily Bowens and Lauren Dalecky and freshmen Simona Kurta and Victoria Karker started the meet by breaking the pool record in the 200m-medley relay.

Their time of 2:06.38 was more than four seconds ahead of Augustana and started a sweep of Forester victories in every women's event. 

Freshmen Lily McCarthy, Madison Martell, and Evelyn Johnson each won a pair of individual women's events, as did senior diver Christina Pekar. McCarthy placed first in the 800m-freestyle in 9:45.84 and the 400m-freestyle in 4:45.15. Martell prevailed in the 200m-freestyle with a time of 2:17.73 and the 100m-butterfly in 1:10.11. Johnson touched the wall first in the 50m-freestyle in 29.25 seconds and the 100m-backstroke in 1:09.39. Pekar swept the diving events, scoring 276.95 points off the 1-meter board and 297.50 in the 3-meter competition.

Additional individual event victories were turned in by Karker in the 200m-IM (2:29.15), Kurta in the 100m-freestyle (1:01.68), and Dalecky in the 100m-breaststroke (1:18.09). Kurta, Bowens, Johnson, and Karker finished off the meet with a victory and time of 1:53.51 in the 200m-freestyle relay.

The Forester men also swept the relays, beginning with a victory by freshman Jakobi McClellan, junior Kristofer Korth, and sophomores Sam Freedberg and Travis Johnson in the 200m-medley relay (1:50.14). McClellan, Johnson, and sophomores Drake Nickell and Orion Huey prevailed in the 200m-freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.12.

Nickell and Freedberg posted a pair of individual event wins as well. Nickell triumphed in the 200m-freestyle in 2:01.35 and the 100m-freestyle in 55.33 seconds. Freedberg won the 100m-butterfly with a time of 59.37 seconds and the 400m-freestyle in 4:23.27.

Freshman Hayden Aristizabal added a victory in the 800m-freestyle (9:05.55), Johnson in the 50m-freestyle (25.31), and Korth in the 200m-IM (2:15.48).

Both Lake Forest teams are now 1-3 in dual meets this season. Augustana's teams each fell to 1-1.

The Foresters will compete in the Phoenix Fall Classic at the University of Chicago this weekend. The competition will begin at 10:00 in the morning on Saturday and Sunday.
