Lake Forest Begins 2014-15 Season at Carthage

The Forester swimming & diving teams traveled to Carthage College on Saturday for a season-opening dual meet. The Lake Forest women were defeated 155-115 and the men 167-112. The visitors posted nine victories on the day, however, including a sweep of the butterfly events by sophomore Sam Freedberg.

Freedberg's 200-butterfly time of 1:58.35 was more than eight seconds ahead of the runner-up and his 52.72 in the 100-butterfly won by 1.73 seconds.

Junior Kristofer Korth also prevailed for the Forester men in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:10.54 and sophomore James haney touched the wall first in the 500-freestyle in 4:55.53.

The Lake Forest women were led by freshman Madison Martell, who finished first in the 1000-freestyle in 11:07.91, 200-butterfly in 2:17.11 and 500-freestyle in 5:26.27. Fellow freshman Simona Kurta recorded a victory in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:01.33 and senior Christina Pekar won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 257.25.

The Foresters and Truman State University will compete in a double-dual at Lewis University next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Both opponents are NCAA Division II members.
