Becky Shaak Improves National Ranking in 400-IM

Lake Forest College swimmer Becky Shaak competed at the Midwest Invite at the University of Chicago on Saturday. Her time in the 400-IM is ranked 12th in the nation.

Shaak finished the time trial event in 4:28.97, which ranks her 12th in the nation with just a few meets remaining. As many as 16 swimmers in each event are typically selected to compete at the NCAA Championships, which will be hosted this year by Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis March 21-24.

Last weekend Shaak won the 400-IM at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet in 4:33.70. She set a school and conference record of 4:27.59 and earned All-American honors by placing seventh in the event at last year's national championships.

Shaak also posted B-cut qualifying times while winning the 200-IM and 200-breaststroke at last weekend's conference championships but neither time is fast enough to secure her spot at the national meet.

The field of competitors for this year's national championships will be announced on Thursday, March 1.
