Foresters Compete at Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular

The Lake Forest College swim teams placed fourth at Wheaton College in the Illinois-Michigan quadrangular on Saturday. Sophomore Zach Wenner's first-place finish in the 200-freestyle was one of three Forester victories on the day.

Wenner won with a season-best time of 1:45.21, slightly faster than the Midwest Conference-best time he posted in early-December and 2.4 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Wenner also placed fourth in the 500-freestyle (4:53.88) and led off the 400-freestyle relay, which placed fourth in 3:16.76.

The Foresters' other two wins were recorded by junior Becky Shaak. She touched the wall first in the 400-IM in 4:43.92 and also prevailed in the 200-breaststroke in 2:27.68, the fastest time in the MWC this season. Shaak also anchored the women's 400-freestyle relay, which placed fourth with a time of 3:48.86.

Lake Forest swimmers placed among the top four in severall other events. Freshman Mark Wilcoxen and sophomore Loren Dutca each accomplished the feat twice. Wilcoxen finished third in both the 1000-freestyle (10:23.53) and 200-butterfly (2:04.24). Dutca was third in the 500-freestyle in 5:20.62 and fourth in the 1000-freestyle (11:12.26).

Sophomore Garr Punnett was the runner-up in the 200-backstroke in 1:59.91 and fourth-place finishes were turned in by freshman Mitchell Reiner in the 1000-freestyle (10:33.72), junior Amy Finn in the 200-freestyle (2:02.11), and junior Kelsey Hoeper in the 100-freestyle (56.45).

Wheaton won the women's competition with 591.5 points and was followed by Kalamazoo College (392.5), Hope College (376), and Lake Forest (332). Hope finished first in the men's team standings with 505.5 points. Kalamazoo was next with 504, Wheaton had 451, and the Foresters tallied 325.5.

Lake Forest's next meet will be a double-dual with Carroll University and host Lawrence University next Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
