The 2017 season will be the second for Gaelen Lombard-Knapp, who assists the head coach in several areas, most specifically in working with the team's catchers and defense.

Lake Forest went 30-14 overall in Lombard-Knapp's first season on staff. The Foresters claimed the 2016 Midwest Conference title with an 18-2 record in league play, hosted and won the four-team conference tournament, and advanced to the regional championship in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Catcher Alex Hemmer was selected as the MWC Player of the Year and Lake Forest ranked second in the league and 57th out of 407 teams in the country with a .961 fielding percentage.

Lombard was a four-year member of the softball team at fellow MWC member Lawrence University and captained the Vikings as a senior. Despite missing her junior year due to injury, she started 76 games and made 86 appearances during her career. The biology major and psychology minor graduated from Lawrence in 2013.

Lombard-Knapp is also a sales representative at Midwest Foods in Chicago.
