Five Lake Forest Players Receive Academic All-District® Accolades

College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2023 Academic All-District® Teams for softball on Tuesday and five Foresters were recognized.

To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must be the equivalent of starters or important reserves and have competed in at least half of the team's contests. They must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at their current institution and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Lake Forest's honorees were seniors Kristen Calhoun and Elena Chrisman, juniors Angelle Bills and Teagan Delarwelle, and sophomore Hannah Smith.

Calhoun, a pitcher, was 3-1 with a 2.50 earned run average this season. The psychology major was named Academic All-Midwest Conference in 2021 and is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.

Chrisman was named First Team All-MWC this spring and finished the season with a .355 batting average, .595 slugging percentage, five home runs, and team-high 35 runs batted in. Majoring in psychology, the outfielder was an Academic All-MWC selection and Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar-Athlete.

Bills served as one of the Foresters two primary catchers this season and also saw some time at second base and shortstop. She batted .294 and, on defense, ranked third on the team with 90 putouts. The biology major is a two-time Academic All-MWC honoree and joined Chrisman as an Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete last year.

Delarwelle was named Second Team All-MWC after batting .337 with three homes runs and 16 runs batted in. The first baseman was also second on the squad with 122 putouts. A double major in business and environmental studies, she was named Academic All-MWC and Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete in 2022.

Smith led the Foresters in the circle with more than 100 innings pitched and finished 12-5 with nine complete games and a 3.52 earned run average on the year. In 2022 she was the MWC Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year, an NFCA Third Team All-Region IX player, an Academic All-MWC honoree, and a Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete selection.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on June 6.
