The Forester softball team was defeated 7-6 and 3-0 at Grinnell College on Saturday.

The opener started well for the visitors, who took the lead in the top of the first inning on junior first baseman Teagan Delarwelle's second home of the year. The Pioneers, however plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Foresters tied the score on a wild pitch in the second and took the lead on a two-run double by Delarwelle in top of the fifth. The bottom of the inning did not go as well as the top for Lake Forest, as a five-run rally by the home team put Grinnell on top 7-4.

Freshman third baseman Cadence Dempsey belted her first career home run with a runner on base to make it a 7-6 game with no outs in the seventh. Delarwelle drew a walk but a flyout and double play ended the team's comeback bid.

Delarwelle, Dempsey, and sophomore second baseman Kelly Collins each had two base hits and the Foresters out-hit the Pioneers 11-6 in the contest.

Game two was scoreless until Grinnell took the lead on a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth. The Pioneers added a run in the fifth and held Lake Forest scoreless on just two base hits.

The losses dropped the Foresters' overall record to 12-11 and Midwest Conference mark to 2-4. Grinnell improved to 16-10 overall and 6-0 in the league.

Lake Forest is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Cornell College Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
