Foresters Drop Season Opener to Concordia Chicago

The Lake Forest College softball team started its 2023 season indoors on Saturday, falling 6-5 to Concordia University Chicago at The Dome at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Illinois.

Junior catcher Angelle Bills had a pair of base hits for the Foresters, as did freshman right fielder Morgan Traxinger in her collegiate debut.

Lake Forest took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a run-scoring double by freshman designated player Kyla Chevalier and RBI single by Traxinger. The Cougars, however, plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.

A three-run second inning put the Foresters back on top. Bills scored on an error, sophomore shortstop Kaylee Purgatorio singled in a run, and senior outfielder Elena Chrisman drove her in on a double.

Concordia Chicago, however, scored single tallies in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to pull ahead. The Foresters had the tying run in scoring position in the seventh but were unable to bring her in.

Lake Forest will return to the indoor facility for a doubleheader against North Central College on March 9.
