Lake Forest College softball player Hannah Smith was named Midwest Conference Pitcher Performer of the Week on Monday after winning both games of Sunday's doubleheader at Illinois College.
The Foresters defeated the Lady Blues, who were predicted to repeat as league champions in the 2022 Preseason Coaches Poll, 10-1 in five innings in the opener and 4-1 in game two. Smith, a freshman, pitched all 12 innings, allowing a total of nine hits while striking out seven batters and walking three.
Smith is the first Forester pitcher to earn two victories on the same day since May of 2016.
Sunday's performance raised Smith's record on the season to 6-4 and lowered her earned run average to 3.27 in 66.1 innings of work. She is now 3-0 with a save and a 1.17 ERA in four appearances during conference play.
