Lake Forest Beaten by Millikin

The Lake Forest softball team lost both its games to Millikin University on Sunday.

The Foresters took an early lead in the first game of the series when senior Hailey Boylan hit a single to center field in the top of the first. They then quickly gave up six runs to the Big Blue in the bottom of the first.

Lake Forest chipped away at Millikin's five-run lead in the top of the second. The surge began with a bunt single by freshman Teagan Delarwelle; she was able to advance to third off the throw by the Big Blue catcher. Freshman Kelly Collins walked and then freshman Hannah Smith struck up, which brough up freshman Caeli Kinsella, who laid down a sacrifice bunt and batted in Delarwelle. Late scoring in the tops of the sixth and seventh innings helped the Foresters gain ground on Millikin, but in the end, the Foresters were unable to regain the lead and fell 7-4.

In their second game of the day, Millikin struck early in the bottom of the first and added to the tally in the second, fourth, and fifth innings, scoring 5 runs. The Foresters got on the board in the top of the sixth. Boylan walked and was then driven home when freshman Cheyenne Pellettiere doubled to center field. It was the only Forester run of the game, and Lake Forest lost 5-1.

The Foresters are now 7-9 on the season, and the Big Blue move to 18-2 overall.

Lake Forest plays next at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday, March 29 at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
