On Wednesday, the Lake Forest softball team dropped its first game against Washington University (Mo.), then came back and won the second.

The Bears were out in front of the Foresters early in the first game after scoring four runs in the first three innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth, when sophomore Angelle Bills hit a single to right field with the bases loaded, that the Foresters got on the board. It was their only run of the game.

Washington scored three more runs and finished the game 7-1 over the home team.

In the second game, the Foresters scored early and held their lead the whole game. After junior Elena Chrisman was able to advance to third off an error by the Bears' right fielder, she was able to score when freshman Kelly Collins grounded out to second. Lake Forest scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth, securing their win.

Lake Forest freshman pitcher Hannah Smith held Washington scoreless until the top of the seventh when she let up only one run. She allowed only seven hits and four walks and struck out three.

Lake Forest is now 7-7 for the season. Washington University moves to 9-3.

The Foresters play again at home on Wednesday, March 23 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. when they will face Carthage College.
